Globe MyBusiness and Gawad Kalinga For A Country of Builders

Globe Telecom  has recently partnered with Gawad Kalinga, a movement which fights poverty to givee sustainable livelihood opportunities to residents of GK Villages in various parts of the country to make this underserved sector a significant partner in nation building.

Teodoro Suaza of GAWA leading the Home Maintenance Team
“Globe continues to do its share in building a resilient Philippines with programs that move toward initiating sustainable efforts like providing livelihood opportunities.  Together with our long-time partner Gawad Kalinga and their social enterprises, we are doing our best to create a wonderful world of possibilities by helping them discover and nurture their potentials,” said Martha Sazon, Sr. Vice President, Globe MyBusiness. Globe myBusiness provides small and medium businesses with innovative, customizable products, services and solutions such as internet connectivity for social enterprises at the GK Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan.

Globe MyBusiness helped leapfrog the implementation of the Gawad Kalinga Workers Association (GAWA), an organization which combines values formation and skills development to ensure that the informal sector will be given a chance to earn a living either on their own or by serving the community.  GAWA is also a response to the huge demand for build activities and other services within and outside GK communities. Since its conception in July 2013, GAWA was able to conduct 42 forums that produced 2,268 graduates, with more to follow.

One major accomplishment of the program was the establishment of the GAWA Build Teams that helped GK bring to completion projects that have demanding timelines or are in areas where support is much needed such as the housing projects in Zamboanga City; Tanay, Rizal; Rio Tuba, Palawan; and in different parts of Leyte.

Aside from training the GK residents, GAWA also assists in finding jobs for the graduates.  A number of them are now employed as on-call housekeepers, drivers, sewers of janitorial services uniform, home maintenance, spa/massage attendants, cable network installers, among others.

Biggest Mobile Recycling Program Launched For E-waste Awareness

Incorrect disposal of e-waste like defective phones, batteries, and chargers is hazardous to health & environment
The biggest mobile recycling program in the Philippines was launched by Globe Telecom last August 22. This is to create awareness on proper electronic waste (e-waste) disposal and help counter its harmful effects on health and the environment.

Named as Project 1 Phone, it is expected to get the support of Globe's 45 million subscribers nationwide for this campaign.  It is said that obsolete and discarded electronic and electrical devices which we call e-waste often end up in landfills and incinerators, causing toxic metals to be released into the air and seep into the ground and waterways. Moreover, studies show that one single cadmium battery has the potential to pollute up to 600,000 liters of water if not disposed off properly.

According to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme entitled “Recycling – from E Waste to Resources," the amount of e-waste being produced globally could rise by as much as 500 percent over the next decade.  On the other hand, DoSomething.Org reported that about 20 million to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide every year with only 12.5 percent being recycled.

Responsible recycling is identified as the most effective solution to the growing e-waste problem. Most electronic devices such as old phones yield precious metals such as gold, silver, copper, and palladium as well as plastics which can be recovered for re-manufacture. Less energy is also used in recycling than mining virgin metals and producing virgin plastics.

Initially, Globe will put up recycle bins in in 21 Globe Stores from various parts of the country (For the complete list, please visit the Globe Telecom website

Schools, corporations, local government units, and other private and non-government organizations are also being encouraged to participate in the program by adopting recycle bins.  Interested parties may email Globe at

Project 1 Phone is Globe Telecom’s second nationwide mobile recycling campaign after the iRecover, iRecycle Program conducted in 2011.

Create Your Spotify Playlist While You're on GoSurf Plan

GoSurf + Spotify = Bringing your music anywhere you go

As someone who works online for 8-10 hours a day, I always make sure I have good music to keep me company while I fiddle away with the keyboard. Now that Spotify is here, I have easy access to my favorite songs and new releases of my favorite bands/singers. It comes so handy as I can browse through my music both from my phone and laptop.

As an online music streaming service, Spotify can be used when you have a Wi-Fi connection or a mobile data subscription. For Globe subscribers,  you can also use Spotify on top of your Globe's GoSURF plans.

And the great thing is, when you use Spotify while on GoSURF, your data allocation will not be affected. GoSURF subscribers get free access to Spotify for 6 months, letting you enjoy the app's library of over 30 million songs for half a year.

Take a look at the some important facts about GoSURF:

     • GoSURF is Globe's consumable mobile internet plan, which offers megabyte (MB) tiers.
     • GoSURF is not subject to the Fair Use Policy (FUP). Under FUP, a user's mobile browsing experience is affected when data usage exceeds the allocation. Instead, users are allowed to use up the amount of data allocated for them without ever being switched to slower speeds.

    • GoSURF plans come with an anti-bill shock guarantee. You only pay for what you use, so you won't have to worry about excessive data charges.

Direct Carrier Billing for Google Play Purchases

Do you know there are over 1.3 million (and growing) apps on the Google Play Store?  Google Play Store is where Android users download apps and digital content. It is one big source of applications on social networking, music streaming, down to booking a restaurant or securing that elusive parking spot. There is definitely an app for anything you can think of;  be it a free app, a paid or premium one, the Google Play Store has everything for every type of mobile phone user.

However, for most Filipinos, the downside is we usually have to stick with free apps to use, due to non-ownership of a credit card, one way to pay for premium apps on Google Play Store.  Sadly, sources say only 4% of Filipinos own credit cards.

To solve this problem,  Globe Telecom makes purchasing on Google Play Store easier and more convenient. Effective August 20, Globe Postpaid, Prepaid and TM customers may now be able to purchase any app or in-app item on the Google Play Store and charge the cost directly to their load or Postpaid bill! No credit card needed!

To begin purchasing apps, first time users just need to select the app they wish to purchase in Google Play Store, accept the app permissions and on the payment options menu, select “Enable Globe Telecom Billing”. After agreeing to the Terms of Service, register your phone number, name and address then the payment will be processed successfully. For succeeding purchases, you just need to enter your Google ID and password to continue processing the payment. (Please see above photos for step by step instructions)

A mobile data connection or WiFi is needed to complete purchases. Upon successful purchase, an email notification from Google will be sent to your registered email.

Purchases made via Globe load or postpaid bill are charged in Philippine peso and are subject to 12% additional VAT over and above the display price on the Google Play App Store.

To know more about this latest service visit, call 730-1010 or visit any Globe store nearest you!

Globe Aims to Step Up Filtering System in Blocking Spam/Scam Messages

fighting against SPAM/SCAM Messages (photo from
The implementation of a filtering mechanism that would keep its customers from receiving unwanted and annoying text spam messages in an aim to intensify its campaign against spam and scam messages, is being tested by Globe Telecom.

Globe installed in its network an automated filtering mechanism which is now working to prevent transmittal of spam and scam messages to mobile devices of some of its postpaid customers. As of late, more than 10,000 spam and scam messages have been blocked from the Globe network.

Mobile numbers that are identified to be a constant source of spam and scam messages will be temporarily disconnected from service. This means that voice, SMS and data services will not be available to these numbers. Service restoration for such numbers will only be undertaken if the users contest the move and show proof they are not text spammers, he added.

The company recently reported that mobile numbers deactivated from Globe service surged this year amid intensified efforts of the mobile operator to combat unsolicited promotional materials sent as SMS messages.

As of April this year, Globe said it barred from its network more than 1,000 mobile numbers. This is 33% higher than the total mobile numbers blocked from the network for the whole of 2013. From January to April 2014, the number of blocked numbers due to reported spamming activities increased by an average of 450% from a year ago.

In June, Globe made it easier for customers to report such annoying messages. Specifically, the mobile operator has made available on a Globe web page a channel through which its customers can report text spams and text scams alike. Customers simply have to go to and provide all the details required. Numbers that are reported for the first time as the source of text spams are sent warnings.  If the same numbers are reported for the second time due to text spams, these are immediately blocked from the network.
